Binaural Beats
Two slightly different tones, one in each ear, create a third 'phantom' beat your brain perceives. Choosing a beat rate (slower for calm, mid-range for relaxed focus) gives the mind a steady, headphone-locked sound to rest attention on. Best treated as a relaxation and focus aid, not a brain-tuning tool.

Safety notes
- If you have epilepsy or any seizure disorder, talk to your doctor before using brainwave-entrainment audio. Purely auditory beats are generally considered lower risk than flashing light, but caution is sensible.
- Do not listen while driving or operating machinery: slower-beat (theta/delta-range) tracks can make you drowsy.
- Keep volume moderate to protect your hearing during long or repeated sessions, especially with in-ear headphones.
- Not a medical treatment. Do not use it to replace professional care for anxiety, insomnia, depression, ADHD, or any diagnosed condition.
- Effects vary a lot from person to person; if a track feels agitating rather than settling, change the beat rate or stop.
How to practice
1. Put headphones on
Use stereo headphones or earbuds and make sure left and right channels are correct. Binaural beats do not work through a single speaker.
2. Pick your intention
Choose calm (slower beat, ~6 Hz), relaxed focus (~10 Hz), or wind-down (~3-4 Hz). Set a comfortable, low volume, just loud enough to hear the beat without strain.
3. Settle and find the beat
Sit or lie comfortably. Listen until you notice the slow pulsing 'wah-wah' underneath the tone. That pulse is your anchor.
4. Rest attention on the pulse
Let your attention ride the beat like a wave. Don't analyze it, just keep returning to it. Give it several minutes; any settling tends to build gradually, not instantly.
5. Notice and return
Each time you catch your mind on a thought, gently bring it back to the pulsing beat. The catching-and-returning IS the practice.
6. Close out
Let the audio fade, sit for a few breaths in the quiet, and notice how your body and mind feel before standing up.
How it works
When each ear receives a slightly different pure tone (say 200 Hz on the left, 206 Hz on the right), the brain combines the two signals and you perceive a single tone seeming to pulse at the difference frequency (here, 6 Hz). This is an auditory illusion created inside the brain, not a real sound in the room, which is why true binaural beats need stereo headphones, one tone per ear. A common idea is 'entrainment': the notion that rhythmic neural activity can fall into step with a steady external rhythm and nudge dominant brainwaves toward the beat rate. The evidence for this is genuinely mixed and modest, some studies report small EEG shifts and others find little or none, and much of any felt benefit is probably ordinary relaxed, focused listening rather than literal brainwave reprogramming. Practically, the steady beat works like a breath or mantra: a fixed object the mind can keep returning to whenever it drifts. Treat it as an attention anchor and relaxation aid, not a way to reliably 'set' your brain to a chosen state.

Tips
